“We wanted classic looks. My favorite color is Tiffany blue and decided to use it as an accent color. The color was laid against a dove grey bridesmaid dress. Our flowers were subtle — white — with hints of dusty miller (a fuzzy grey plant). The groomsmen were in classic black tuxedos with black skinny ties.”
“We made a point to include as many family members as possible. After all, family is forever. Patrick has 23 nieces & nephews — at the wedding, a child representative from each family read a prayer of the faithful. It is family tradition to be escorted to be escorted down the aisle by a bagpiper. Patrick chose a unique tune to make that walk (“Highland Cathedral”), and it was the perfect conclusion to our special ceremony.”
“Patrick & I are born and raised in Cleveland. We never imagined we would have a winter wedding (after 10 years of dating), but we knew it would be unique. We had no expectations for weather; it could have been 65 degrees and sunny or a blizzard. We ended up with a picture-perfect blizzard. Our day (and our photos) were completely Cleveland-esque. They were amazing, and we wouldn’t have changed a thing.”
“We knew this wedding was going to be a party — Patrick is the youngest of 8 and the last to be married, and I’m the youngest (of two) and the only girl. The reception was a cocktail dinner party. We decided to avoid the traditional sit-down dinner to encourage our guests to mingle and create more of a party atmosphere. The concept was to drink (did I mention there was a martini bar?) & eat throughout the night. We finished out the night with a late night snack — soft pretzels and corned beef sliders, of course!”
Advice from her: “Include your fiancee in all the planning. This is the first of many important parties in your life/marriage. Plan the wedding together, and make sure you both get elements you always dreamed would be part of your special day.”
Advice from him: “Don’t be afraid to give your opinion during the wedding process. It’s your wedding, too. If you don’t speak up your fiance will never know what you want. Make an effort to include your family and value your opinions.”
